Preface
In April 2026, while searching for poems about the sea to inspire a series of lyrical compositions, almost by accident I stumbled upon the work of Carl Sadakichi Hartmann (1867 - 1944).
I had never heard his name before.
What I found moved me deeply. I was struck by the emotional honesty, the sensual beauty and
the quiet melancholy of his words. Again and again, I returned to them.
What began as curiosity gradually evolved into Abracadabrant · SADAKICHI — a curated collection of seventeen musical interpretations, most of them inspired by poems from " Drifting Flowers of the Sea and Other Poems" (1904). More than a century later, Hartmann's poems still speak of love, longing and distant shores.
I hope these songs may encourage others to discover the remarkable poet whose words gave rise to them.
